Congratulations! If you're reading this, you're probably pregnant, or recently gave birth. Congratulations! Recently, I gave birth to my first child. In the days anticipating her arrival, I spent many hours reading countless articles about what you need for your baby. The truth is - you don't need much - and you don't need anything fancy. I definitely overpacked my hospital bag! Here are the 7 items I consider must-haves for a newborn.
2. Zip-Up Sleepers
3. Pack-N-PlayWe invested a decent amount of money into a bassinet, only for her to outgrow it after just four weeks. The crib in her bedroom is unused as she isn't sleeping her own room yet since she still wakes up for nighttime feedings. The Pack-N-Play is the perfect option! The Pack-N-Play has a bassinet attachment that is much roomier than the traditional bassinet. Your baby is likely going to be spending the first several months of their life in your room, and the Pack-N-Play is an easy-to-use, portable sleeping option for your baby. As your baby grows, you can remove the bassinet attachment and use it as a crib. 4. Baby Swing
5. Onesies, Onesies, Onesies!Blow outs are real. If you haven't experienced one yet... you will! I would highly recommend buying onesies in larger sizes, not just 0-3mo or 3-6mo. My daughter is only 3-months old and already fits in 6-9mo clothes! 6. Diapers & wipesYou truly cannot have enough diapers and wipes. Stock up on many sizes - newborns outgrow their diapers very quickly. My baby progressed to a size 1 at just 4-weeks, and a size 2 at 12-weeks! If you're not using disposable diapers, make sure you have plenty of cloth diapers. As far as brand goes, I've tried them all, and honestly most of them work well. I've never had a leak (with the exception of blow outs), and I've tried the main brands: Pampers Swaddlers, Pampers Baby Dry, Huggies Little Snugglers, Luvs... they all work great. My favorite diaper for our baby, though, is Pampers Swaddlers. They're so soft! **If you're looking to save some cash, you can usually get free diapers at your local food shelf. Aldi also sells diapers for cheap, and they're comparable to Pampers. We've used them several times and they're great and affordable. Same goes for wipes - Aldi wipes work great. They're comparable to the popular brands. My favorite wipes by the popular brands is Pampers Sensitive Wipes and Huggies Nature Care Wipes. 7. SwaddlesI cannot express how grateful I am for SwaddleMe swaddles! When my baby was a newborn, we only used the Halo Sleepsacks the hospital gave us. They worked great when she was tiny, but eventually, our baby got hot wearing them at night (even in the cold Minnesota winters). When we switched to SwaddleMe's, she began sleeping 5-8 hours at night. These swaddles are nice and lightweight, and easy to work with. I regret buying so many swaddle blankets, my daughter is an escape artist who managed to wiggle her way out of every blanket! SwaddleMe kept her snuggled up tight and comfortable. Congrats, moms and dads! you are amazing!
